Preview of High School Basketball from the 2022 Class By Mia Miller “My favorite part of basketball is the team aspect. If a player isn't having their best game on the floor, there are 4 more girls who can back you up and get you out of your slump,” Katelyn Lappe said. Katelyn is an eighth grader at Bondurant-Farrar Middle School. She played basketball this season and last season with the 2022 class. Several members of the basketball team shared their experiences during the season, and what they were looking forward to next season playing high school basketball. The three students: Katelyn, Regan McDougalle, and Delaney Moore, said that they were planning on playing basketball next year. When asked what they enjoyed most about last year’s season, they all replied with something along the lines of enjoying hanging with the team or making new friends. There were 12 girls out for the eighth grade basketball team last year. The three players shared that they did not think that 12 was a very big number for the basketball team. Katelyn pointed out that the team “lost 1-2 members throughout the season.” Next year, the three students will be playing high school basketball. They shared some of their thoughts about the number of people they think will be out next year. “I think there will be more because high school is their last chance to play basketball,” Regan McDougalle said. The four years in high school is their only opportunity to play basketball unless they go to college to play. Katelyn said that she thinks there will be more people out because it is four grades combined into one basketball program. When asked what she was looking forward to next season, Regan said that she was looking forward to improving her skills and playing with her friends. Katelyn and Delaney said they were also looking forward to hanging out with the team. High school basketball is often more competitive and serious than years before. Katelyn shared her thoughts, “I am not nervous for next year’s season, because we will have a couple years to create chemistry and bond because our team is young. We have had playing experience before.” Delaney and Regan both said that they were nervous for next season. Delaney said that because there is “more pressure” for her to do her best in high school. “I think it will be harder for me physically because I have to work a lot harder in games, and it will be mentally harder because it will be more stressful, and I will have to think on the spot,” Delaney said. In conclusion, players enjoyed this basketball season. Having fun with the team and the team chemistry are some of the things they said they enjoyed. The team is excited for next season and to play with different people. “I am very excited for next year because I will learn so much more about the game that I love to play,” said Delaney Moore.
